Invitation to Bar Council’s International Justice Day Debate (15 July 2009)

17 July, which has come to be known as International Justice Day, marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute that established the International Criminal Court. We are pleased to inform you that, to commemorate this day, the Human Rights Committee (HRC) is planning a debate that will take place as follows:

Time : 7:00 pm
Date : Wednesday, 15 July 2009
Venue : Bar Council Auditorium
No. 13, 15 & 17 Leboh Pasar Besar
Kuala Lumpur

Universiti Teknologi MARA and Universiti Malaya will send debating teams consisting of three speakers each to participate in this event, which will use the Asian debating format. The topic to be debated, which will revolve around the Rome Statute and the International Criminal Court, will be announced 30 minutes before the debate takes place.

Members of the public are cordially invited to attend this event, which is open to the public. For your reference, the programme for the event is contained in Appendix A below. A brief description of the background of the Rome Statute is contained in Appendix B below.
