FORUM: FREEDOM vs PROTECTION, PUBLIC vs PRIVATE
Central Market Annexe, KL

These are the fundamentals issues in the debate of the right to freedom of
information. Does free flow of information by default guarantees good
governance? Should the state be protected by some degree of secrecy? Would
a society that operates on the principle of freedom of information
threaten to expose the privacy of individuals?

The Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) attempts to clarify the
muddled notion of freedom of information by sifting apart its original
intention and principles, from the convoluted argument and concerns on how
it could not work in a multi-racial society like Malaysia. We would like
to invite members of the public and interested individuals to a forum
titled Article 10 and Freedom of Information on September 28, in
conjunction with the International Right to Know Day. Featured panelists
including Executive Director Gayathry Venkiteswaran and Maria Abdullah,
Programme Director of the Sisters in Islam.

Catch it at the Annex, Central Market, at 3 pm this Sunday, 28 September
