From Putrajaya to No Home…… The ten year wait continues

16 low-cost houses, this is what will take to resolve this ten year wait. Yes… this is the demand put forward by the former plantation workers from Ladang Galloway and Madingley to YB Dr. Xavier the newly appointed Selangor State Exco for Health, Estates Workers, Poverty and Caring Government.

This morning, representatives from both estates – Galloway and Madingley together with PSM’s Secretary General, S.Arutchelvan, Community Development Center Coordinator S. Paremeswari and Sivakumar held a meeting with the Pakatan Rakyat Government to solve their housing problem which has been continuing for more than 10 years.

In 1995, the Government acquired four estates, Ladang Prang Besar, Ladang Galloway, Ladang Sedgeley and Ladang Madingley to construct the multi-billion ringgit Putrajaya. All plantation workers were assured a low cost house in Flat Taman Permata, Dengkil upon the sale of the estates except this 16 families who were exempted. They have since, went all over seeking intervention from politician but the intervention never come. What was even more frustrating was that the workers who never worked in the estates and never toiled the plantation were offered these houses.

Dr. Xavier said that they will try to establish the number of empty houses in the flat Taman Permata in two weeks time and if no empty houses, then they will identify whether any other housing project is available in Dengkil which can be offered to the people.

While the Prime Minister has built his 5 star house in Putrajaya, the people who originally stayed there are still finding for alternative houses. It is hoped that the new State Government will resolve this decade old issue.
