Two Human Rights Defenders Released on Police Bail

Lau Shu Shi and Teh Chun Hong were released today on police bail after their 24 hour remand expired today morning. They were arrested in Jalan Patani Police Station for questioning the police on the arrest that has been took place in anti- ISA rally. The rally held at Gurney Drive Roundabout in Penang yesterday.

Lau Shu Shi has been charged for 2 offences which are under Section 27 and Section 90 of Police Act. Meanwhile, Teh Chun Hong charged under Section 90 of Police Act. They were required to attend to the court on 21st and 26th May 2008.

We thank you for your support and urge you to continue to send protest letters to the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the Inspector-General of the Police and express your concerns on the abuse of powers by the police. This arrest is a clear attempt to suppress freedom of expression, and is a form of harassment and blatant abuse of powers by the police.
