Dear Friends,

This AFC volume features the following excellent articles:
- “Rural Women’s SRHR: Knowing the Complexities for Strengthening Strategies” ~ By Kausar Khan, Department of Community Health Sciences,
Aga Khan University, Pakistan ~ This editorial poses a challenge to everyone working on rural women’s SRHR concerns–whether feminists,
reproductive health practitioners or rights activists. It makes a case that addressing rural women’s SRHR issues cannot be done effectively and
efficiently through universal blueprints developed in urban centres. Rather, strategies must consider various complexities—of the concepts
within SRHR, of the diversity of what is rural, and of women’s realities.
- “Building Capacities on Evidence-based SRHR Advocacy in Nepal” ~ By Beyond Beijing Committee/WHRAP Team, BBC, Nepal ~ This article discusses
the Women’s Health Rights Advocacy Partnership strategy of building capacities of rural women and community based organisations in gathering
evidence, and using this evidence for advocacy to improve services and make government accountable in Nepal.
- “Rural Women Take Reproductive Health Matters into Their Own Hands” ~ By T.K. Sundari Ravindran and P. Balasubramanian, RUWSEC ~ This article
describes lessons learned about strategies to address rural women’s health issues through the work of RUWSEC, a grassroots women’s
organisation founded by dalit women.
- “Health for All? Examining the Rural-Urban Access Divide” ~ By Michelle Rogers, ARROW ~ Providing concrete evidence of the urban-rural
divide in five countries in the Asia-Pacific, this factfile recommends strengthening further the evidence base to understand further the issue
and inform appropriate policy and programme changes.
This volume also features latest key resources on the theme from our information and documentation centre (IDC), as well as monitoring information on international, regional and national-level activities related to rural women.
Our partner in this translation initiative is RUWSEC, a Tamil Nadu-based organisation co-founded by Sundari Ravindran and 12 dalit women, and which is also featured in the spotlight article.
If you have Tamil-speaking constituencies, please do email us and we can send you print copies. We would also love to hear from you on what you think about this AFC or on any of the articles here — a feedback form is available at. Contributions, particularly on the Resources and Monitoring Activities section, are also very much welcome. Kindly address emails to malyn@arrow.po.my and afc@arrow.po.my
Cheers,
Malyn
