Please find below an invitation to the Bar Council’s forthcoming workshop on migration policies in Malaysia. The purpose of this workshop is to review existing practices in Malaysia and contrast these with best practices. The Bar Council is in the midst of confirming speakers from various government ministries, so that we can hear their perspectives.
See the registration form attached. Also note that members of migrant organisations are invited to attend.

The programme is from 9am to 5.30pm on the 18th, and half day on the 19th.
If the conference is over subscribed, then the Bar Council will limit participation to 2 persons from each organisation.

Conference: Developing A Comprehensive Policy Framework for Migrant Labour
Warm greetings.
Malaysia is today the largest receiving country of migrant labour in Asia. Despite the huge presence of migrant workers in the country, it appears that we do not have in place a comprehensive policy framework to deal with the situation. Different government agencies and Ministries have been tasked to deal with different facets of the migrant issue.
The Malaysian Bar is organizing a 1 ½ day Conference to address the gaps in existing policy and to suggest a comprehensive policy framework to address all the various dimensions of the problem. Please find attached the draft program.
This Conference will take place as follows:
Date : 18 & 19 February 2008
Venue : Crystal Crown Hotel, Petaling Jaya
