The fifth annual KOMAS Freedom Film Fest (FFF) will launch its campaign to promote and highlight socially conscious film making and films about human rights at the Central Market, Annexe from 11am until 12pm on Saturday 2nd February, 2008.
The launch will also kick off the filmmaking competition “Dare to Document” for 2008, with the calling for entries and the unveiling of a brand new thought provoking theme for this year.
FFF2008 invites members of the of public to send in their proposals before the deadline on the 31st March, 2008 and compete for the chance to be one of the three lucky people chosen to receive a RM5,000 grant to turn your film into a reality!
Winners will also receive the Justin Louis Award and technical assistance from KOMAS to produce their winning stories. Completed films will premiere at the FFF2008 screenings and will ultimately compete for the “Most Outstanding Human Rights Film” title. Former winners include Fahmi Reza for his critically acclaimed 2007 entry “Sepuluh Tahun Sebelum Merdeka”.
“Dare to Document” is the slogan used to promote the FFF film competition, which encompasses the spirit of activism through filmmaking among the current generation of cinemagoers and filmmakers thus creating much needed opportunities for local filmmakers to express their social concerns through the creative use of film.
We dare you to document! See you at the launch!
