Lachumanan died in police lockup No 6 in Raub police station on 18 Dec 2007 ‘mysteriously’. The police claimed that he has committed suicide with a blanket. A memo endorsed by DAP, PKR, Policewatch and Malaysians Against Death Penalty and Torture was handed over to ASP Venu of Bukit Aman. He promised to hand over the memo to the IGP. The activists were upset that Venu refused to hold a dialogue inside the police HQ but instead preferred to accept the memo outside the police HQ (at the roadside).
