HINDRAF rally: 136 still detained, others released

136 of the approximately 400 who were arrested before and during the HINDRAF rally today (25 November 2007) are still being detained by the police. The rest of those arrested have been released in batches this evening.

Of those held at Police Training Centre (Pusat Latihan Polis, Pulapol) in Jalan Semarak, 60 have been remanded for 2 days, while another 7 of them will be brought to the Magistrate tomorrow (26 November 2007). All of them have been transferred to the former Pudu Jail (Jalan Hang Tuah) while one female detainee to the Wangsa Maju Police Station.

Meanwhile, at the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK Kuala Lumpur), a total of 20 have been remanded for 3 days. As of 10pm, 25 November 2007, another 49 are still being heard before the Magistrate for remand orders. All those held at IPK Kuala Lumpur were arrested early this morning in Batu Caves before the rally had started. 4 of them have sustained injuries and been sent to General Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
