About 50 workers arrived Malaysia under the approval of IM: 101/HQ-J/857-1(1497) dated 13/02/2007.
50 complainants came into Malaysia on 13th July 2007 through KLIA under ‘calling pass’. This is for the purpose of to employ them as service workers in the company named Konsortium Pasar Borong Sdn. Bhd. However, when they arrived at KLIA, 50 of them were detained by the Immigration Department for three days on the reason that their employer has yet to come and pick them up.On the 15 th July 2007, the agent Mr. Steven Teh who represented the MCT Agency Services Sdn Bhd picked them up and the Immigration Department passed all their passports to the said agent.
When 50 of them were brought to Pasar Borong Baru, Selayang, there were already another 38 workers from Bangladesh placed at the same house at Pasar Borong.
They had been promised employment for 3 years and the contract states:
Basic monthly salary : RM23.00 /26days =RM598.00
Allowance :
a) Attendance (if fully attendance entire month) : =RM -
b) Food : =RM -
c) Transport : (FREE)
d) Night Shift (daily) : RM 0.00 x 26 days =RM -
e) Overtime : (2 hours daily x 1.5) =RM224.25
Total Salary (not less than RM700/pm) =RM822.25
However, they were not given employment or even food for about 3 months to date and they only depend on their Bangladeshi friends who provide them food. The complainants also alleged that they have yet to obtain the work permit. As according to the procedures the employer has not done medical tests and no work permit issued for them.
Among the 50 workers, 10 were provide jobs on an off and on basis, while the remaining 40 workers were not provided jobs. The 40 workers were promised jobs in Kuala Lumpur but the employer (agency) insisted that the go and work in maleka and Ipoh and in different jobs. When they questioned on their contract and their work permit, some of them were beaten up by Mr. Steven Teh (agent) together with 4 unidentified men on 20/09/2007.
The workers request that they get the jobs and their work permits be processed.
The workers have filed a police report (No report: JINJANG/015749/07) on 222/10/07 with Police Diraja Malaysia at Balai police JLN Bandar ( H.S.Lee), Dang wangi, Kuala Lumpur. They have also filed a case (No File: KBKL 1142/2007 dated 25/10/2007) at the Ampang labour department. A letter has been sent to various government departments.
