A joint protest memorandum endorsed by 49 civil society organisations, which was addressed to the Vice Chancellor of UPM on 25th Sept have successfully given pressure to UPM authorities to return Yee Yang Yang’s belongings (which included a laptop, a pen drive, an mp4, and a handphone) after 2 weeks.
Yee had his belongings seized under questionable circumstances on 15 Sept in a clear example of abuse of powers by the university authorities to intimidate students who champion for students’ rights.
The support and assistant given by the entire NGO is much appreciate by the students group.
However we regconize that this is only a minor victory for the movement on democratic, just and equality. Therefore there is still a long way of struggle to move forward before an ideal society can be achieve by the effort of all.
People united will never be defeated.
