Since 1 August 2007, 2 Government Hospitals - Hospital Selayang and Hospital Putrajaya have become the first victims of privatization when the BN Government allowed the Government Doctors to treat private patience and to charge them private rates. This is known as the “full-paying patient’ scheme. It is also the first step to encourage further privatisation of other Government Hospitals and a move to slowly privatise the public health sector.
This is also the first step for our Government Hospitals to go to the drains. This move if not opposed will be implemented nationwide in all hospitals. 70% of people go to the Government Hospital for treatment. This move will definitely burden this group of people as specialist Doctors will be either too busy or tired. Rural areas will suffer as specialist Doctors will migrate to urban centers, Specialist Doctors won’t have enough time to train their junior doctors.
On 23 August 2007(Thursday), The Coalition Against Privatization of Public Health Care will launch a nationwide leafleting exercise in 30 Government Hospitals nationwide. The exercise would take place in all major states in the Peninsular and would involve many volunteers.
If you are interested, please call 019-5616807 (Dr. Kumar) to find out where you can help leaflet.
