During CIJ and Sisters in Islam (SIS)’s meeting with the Publication Control Division of the Ministry of Internal Security (MOIS), the department secretary, Che Din Yusoh said he is open to dialogue with groups with different view on book banning. CIJ and SIS would like to call forth all interested civil society groups to join a strategizing session as well as participants for the actual dialogue, which we hope to take place by this year. The details of the session is as below;
Date: 2 July
Time: 10:00 am
Venue: Sisters in Islam (SIS) office, No. 7, Jalan 6/10, Seksyen 6, 46000 PJ
We seriously urge civil society groups to join the session. There are strong indicators that the Ministry is prepared to relax its high-handed policy after consistent pressure by the media and groups including ABIM recently. That Che Din’s openness to dialogue with groups and publishers is a rare sign and we should not let the opportunity to push for a liberal policy on books slips by.
We hope to see you on the day.
