“Persatuan Masyarakat Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan” (PERMAS) is happy to invite you to celebrate May Day! We are inviting 500 representatives from at least 10 urban poor communities including the urban settlers (squatters), rumah panjang residents, and low cost flat communities from Penang, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur to gather in the Jinjang Utara Longhouse settlement in Kuala Lumpur. Address: BLOK 18, RUMAH PANJANG JINJANG UTARA.
This special event will be filled with cultural presentations performed by the communities themselves to express their struggle for their basic human rights, and lunch will be served! We will invite workers to assert their right to adequate housing. Adequate Housing and standard of living is one of the top priorities in the agenda of the United Nations ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council) as well as the Universal Declaration for Human Rights.
We therefore call upon the authorities and respective members of the business private sector involved in the housing industry to respect the right of Malaysian workers & also to help contribute to fulfilling their needs for adequate housing in Malaysia. We are inviting you to participate in this event on May 1^st , when the urban poor workers of
Malaysia will symbolically put another mark on their ongoing struggle because we believe that:
“HOUSING RIGHTS ARE WORKERS RIGHTS!”
