To: Y.Bhg Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, Attorney General of Malaysia
With all due respect may we refer to the above matter.
It has been brought to our attention vide the aforesaid newsreport and numerous telephone calls from members of the public that the deceased, Mr.Thiagarajan a/l Sannapan (34) as per his police report dated 16/1/2007 was ordered to appear at the Kluang ACA office at 5.00 pm on 12/1/2007. Mr Thiagarajan however appeared at about 7.30 pm and was taken to a dark room, forced to strip naked and was then interrogated for about 3 ½ hours.
The deceased was then asked to confess that a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer asked him to collect some money to which the deceased refused but was later forced to sign some documents which he was not allowed to read beforehand.
He was then beaten up on the head, face and body and also kicked by two Anti Corruption Agency (ACA) officers at the Kluang, Johor office. Mr Thiagarajan had injuries to his lips, head and body and was bleeding. The deceased was then ordered to wash away the blood stains on his face and body and released at about 11.00pm.
On 5/2/2007 Mr.Thiagarajan suddenly died after having some breathing difficulties. Our medical practitioners have opined that it is possible for an internal head or other injury to cause death even after about three (3) weeks.
According to the deceased widow Mr Thiagarajan was healthy and had no major illnesses and was gainfully employed as a lorry driver and also as a part time insurance agent. Upon returning home her husband also complained of the pain caused by the aforesaid assault. This widow now has to fend for herself and her three (3) children aged 8, 6 and 5. This widow also holds the relevant ACA officers responsible for her husband’s untimely death.
We hereby appeal to your goodselves to immediately order an urgent and thorough investigation and charge the relevant ACA officers for causing this death. We call upon your goodselves to act swiftly and in the general public interest. With respect, your rightful public duties would send a strong signal to the authorities in power that they cannot abuse their powers and most importantly that they are not above the law and violence especially on mere suspects will not be tolerated.
Your kind indulgence in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
We apologise for any inconveniences incurred and mean no disrespect to your goodself. We are merely bringing this matter to your attention in the general public interest.
Thank You,
Yours Faithfully.
