At least 13 more arrested for defending housing right in Kg. Berembang
In addition to the 9 activists arrested this morning, the local authority – Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ) with the police have now arrested at least 13 more people who were trying to save homes of the poor in Kampung Berembang. They have been sent to the Ulu Kelang Taman Keramat police station and Ampang Jaya Police Station respectively.
The nine arrested this morning are:
1. Adli Abdul Rahman
2. Fiqtriey bin Al Hakimi
3. Lee Huat Seng
4. Lechumy Devi Doraisamy
5. Mohd. Rajis
6. Parames Elumalai
7. Ramachanthiran Ananthan
8. Ramalingam Thirumalai
9. Thevarajan Ramasamy
The thirteen recently arrested are:
1. Ebrahim Haris
2. Sevan
3. Mohan
4. Sivarajan
5. Awalluddin Sharif
6. V. Wani
7. Sabariah Ayoub
8. Ahmad Tamrin
9. Azman Mohd
10. Faezae Ramzi (15 years old)
11. Kumaravee
12. Chang Lih Kang
13. S. Arutchelvan
Suaram condemns the unnecessary arrest by the police. As the court case is still on going, the MPAJ and the police should not take side because their duty is not to serve the developer in a house demolition. This is clearly an abuse of power.
We call on the police to release all of them immediately.
